The Altona Clean Fuels Venture Project won the 2007 Victorian Engineering Excellence Award for Industrial Development and Manufacturing (sponsored by State Government of Victoria). The nomination for the award was entered by ExxonMobil, Transfield Services and Shedden Uhde.
The project was commissioned to meet Federal Government's January 1, 2006 deadline for cleaner fuels in Australia.
To meet these new requirements the Altona refinery embarked on an innovative restructuring program which involved substantially reconfiguring the refinery, installing new plant and equipment, changing the service of existing equipment, refurbishing and reusing previously decommissioned equipment.
The judges said " They were impressed by the strong and capable management of all aspects of the project."
This is the second industry award in recent times for Shedden Uhde refinery upgrade project. Winning this Victorian award results in automatic entry for the Australian awards.
