Project: Ammonium Nitrate Explosives Plant

Moura, Queensland, Australia

This 180,000 tonne per year plant provides Ammonium Nitrate for use as an explosive to Queensland’s large coal mining industry. The plant is one of only four in Australia and guarantees supply of the strategic ingredient to Queensland’s important coal industry.

The locally produced Ammonium Nitrate plays an important role in import replacement with the majority of Ammonium Nitrate currently having to be imported into the country. Feedstock for the self-contained plant is natural gas that is piped to the facility, where, in a series of integrated plants, the conversion process is gas to ammonia; ammonia to nitric acid, and finally, the nitric acid is used as feedstock for the production of Ammonium Nitrate.
