Uhde Shedden becomes a "Global Engineering Hub" within Uhde's worldwide technology and contracting business

Uhde Shedden, which has established an excellent reputation as one of the Region’s top ranking engineering companies in the fields of oil & gas, refining and chemicals / petrochemicals over nearly thirty years, will become a "Global Engineering Hub" within Uhde's worldwide technology and contracting business.

Uhde - one of the world's leading technology-driven engineering contractors operating large engineering centres well-distributed all over the world with a staff of more than 4,400 highly qualified employees - has been closely cooperating with Shedden over many years and has already had a substantial shareholding in the Company. In keeping with its dedicated and sustainable growth strategy, Uhde has now acquired a hundred percent ownership of Shedden.

Uhde Shedden is nominated as:

- Uhde's Lead Company for the Australian, South-East-Asian and Chinese markets and will play an essential role within Uhde's Global Oil & Gas Business;

- A main High-End Technology Service and Project Delivery Hub serving international customers all over the world by utilizing its offices in Australia (Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth) and Thailand (Bangkok and a low-cost centre in Map Ta Phut).

Furthermore Uhde Shedden is looking to expand its operations into China (Shanghai), Singapore, Vietnam and into the NAFTA-Region (Houston, Mexico City).

Mr Russell Scott, the Managing Director of Uhde Shedden said:

“Uhde Shedden is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Uhde. In recognition of the leading role that the Company will play in the expansion of Uhde’s world-wide contracting business and as a signal of strength based on the specific combination, our trading name will change to Uhde Shedden Pty Ltd."

"Uhde Shedden will share the global engineering competence role with Uhde’s refining technology division located near Frankfurt in Germany. The appointment is clear recognition of Uhde Shedden’s strong capabilities and experience in the upstream and downstream oil & gas sectors".

Current Uhde Shedden projects include work on the USD 6 billion synthetic fuels facility at Secunda in South Africa for SASOL. Uhde Shedden is assisting SASOL with conceptual studies and refinery documentation.

In China, Uhde Shedden is partnering with China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation to prepare the Basic Engineering Design for a gasification plant in the Ningxia Autonomous Region of the PRC. Work on this project is currently being completed in Melbourne and Beijing.

“In Thailand, we marked a significant milestone in Map Ta Phut when the first batch of biodiesel was produced early in December 2007 at a new plant designed by Uhde and Uhde Shedden (Thailand). Engineering was carried out in India and in Thailand, and procurement activities divided between Germany, Thailand, and India, it was a truly global project” said Mr Scott.

Uhde Shedden has been responsible for the EPCM delivery of the majority of recent clean fuels (sulphur reduction in diesel and benzene reduction in gasoline) projects within the Australian refinery sector as well as many new and expanded facilities in the Asian chemicals sector.
